EA – No flame detected

This is one of the most common. It means the boiler has tried to ignite but hasn’t detected a flame.

  • Gas supply turned off
  • An issue with the ignition or flame sensor
  • Condensate pipe frozen in winter

First, check that your gas is on. If you’ve got a prepayment meter, make sure there’s credit. If it’s freezing outside and your condensate pipe runs externally, it could be iced up. In that case, gently thawing it with warm water can sometimes get you going again.

F22 – Low system pressure

This is another frequent one, especially after bleeding radiators. It means the water pressure in the heating system has dropped too low.

A1 – Pump running dry

This can appear if there’s air in the system or very low water pressure. You might also notice some gurgling from the boiler or pipes.

Check the pressure first. If that’s fine, it could point to a circulation issue which usually needs an engineer to diagnose properly.

C6 – Fan fault

The fan helps expel fumes safely. If this code pops up, the boiler will usually lock out for safety reasons.

  • Check the thermostat settings and timer

  • Look for frozen condensate pipe in cold weather

Only reset the boiler once. If it keeps locking out, it’s doing so for a reason.
